Advocacy
As we enter our 33rd year of operation, South Side Help Center is “LevelingUp” in Advocacy. As Chicago’s foremost Black-founded and Black-led community based organization in the field of HIV/AIDS education, prevention and care, the responsibility of developing and implementing initiatives that address SYSTEMS and POLICIES which bring about racial inequity have become a duty that is intertwined with our mission.
We have developed and led forums to engage city, state and federal legislators, as well as organizations dedicated to the socio-economic equity of African-Americans. These forums have led to the introduction of new legislation and protection of current legislation e.g. the Illinois Afican-American HIV/AIDS Response Act, to address inequities of funding for Black-led, culturally-compotent services in the Black community.
Please visit our FaceBook page and other social media for ongoing “acton-oriented” initiatives. In particular, please mark your calendars for every Third Thursday of the Month, to participate in our monthly “LevelUp Virtual Town Halls” which address and provide solutions to racial inequity.
